Colusa girls down Winters

Colusa freshman Danica Chavez, shown in a photo from last month, had a game high 14 points in the RedHawks’ 39-19 win over Winters on Jan. 12.

With the recent surge in COVID cases interrupting the slate of girls basketball games, the Colusa RedHawks made the most of their one chance last week, cruising to a 39-19 win over the visiting Winters Warriors.

Eight players broke into the scoring column, led by Danica Chavez, who finished with a stat line that included a game-high 14 points, six assists, and five steals.

Reese Roper corralled eight rebounds and Karsyn Gwinnup cleared away six for the RedHawks, who held the Warriors to single digits in every quarter of the game.

Now 2-0 in Sacramento Valley League play, and 9-6 overall, Colusa was scheduled to be in Willows on Jan. 18, then returns home for a non-conference game tonight, before ending the week by hosting East Nicolaus on Friday evening.
