‘Jacket boys soccer winning big

The Yellowjackets’ Ernie Lemus takes a shot during a match with Paradise on Jan. 12. Lemus scored two goals in the 13-1 win then followed up with a three goal game against Redding Christian on Jan. 14.

Returning to the pitch for the first time in over a month, the Williams Yellowjacket boys soccer team showed no ill effects from the layoff, as they overwhelmed their two opponents last week outscoring Paradise 13-1 at home on Jan. 12 then following up with a 9-1 victory in Palo Cedro against Redding Christian on Jan. 14.

Leo Hernandez found the back of the net four times against the visiting Bobcats, while Ernie Lemus and Leo Gonzalez each added a pair of goals to lead the Yellowjackets.

Also getting into the scoring column was Kaled Correa, Adrian Solis, Omar Lomeli, Michael Cervantes, and Marco Castillo, who all scored a goal apiece.

Lomeli additionally assisted on three goals, while Correa set up two.

Taking their show on the road two days later, Lemus recorded a hat trick and Juan Velazquez delivered a brace to pace the ‘Jackets, who also got goals from Correa, Cervantes, and Lomeli.

Williams (7-1, 4-0) hosted Maxwell at McCarl Field on Wednesday in a non-conference match, then continues its home stand when it squares off against Sacramento Valley League foe Durham on Friday.
