Steven was born on March 23, 1963, in Chico, CA and entered into eternal rest on Oct. 15, 2021, as a result of complications due to a non-COVID illness. He is survived by his mother Kay and stepfather Richard Hosmer of Colusa, CA, his father, James and stepmother Bonnie McAllister of Corning, CA, step siblings, Bryan (Lisa) Bonser of Jasper, Missouri, Jim McAllister of Phoenix AZ, Ginger Hoffman and Karen (Robert) Mills of Corning, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Kenneth and Rosie Millard of Chico, and Claude and Hattie McAllister of Chester, CA.
Steven attended grammar school in Chico, middle school in Paradise and Chico Senior High before enlisting in the US Navy. He served as a helicopter mechanic, touring the world courtesy of the Navy for more than 4 years, returning with numerous stories of his adventures. Upon returning to civilian life he worked for the California Gaming Commission. He loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, and gold panning.
He was passionate about the Colusa County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue unit, Clan McAllister Society, all Highland Games, and was an active member in numerous chapters of ECV. He was a devoted son, brother, and cousin to a large group of nieces and nephews. He was most willing to help anyone whose path he crossed in whatever way he could, including opening his home to Camp fire survivors.
He will be laid to rest, with full military honors, on Dec. 6, 2021, at 12:30 PM, at the Igo Veterans Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place immediately afterwards at the Cottonwood Community Center.
