RedHawk boys flying high

Colusa’s Seth Kalisuch, shown in a photo from last month, had nine points and eight assists in the RedHawks’ 83-73 win over Valley Christian (Roseville)

Colusa’s varsity boys’ basketball team posted two road wins last week when it blew past East Nicolaus 67-40 in its Sacramento Valley League opener on Jan. 4, then outlasted Valley Christian 83-73 two nights later.

In Trowbridge against the Spartans, the RedHawks outscored their hosts 24-9 in the first quarter and never looked back as they cruised to an easy win.

It was a balanced attack for Colusa, as Landon Humphrey finished with 17 points, Joel Magallon, in his first game for the RedHawks dropped in 14, Isaiah Travis contributed 13 points and seven rebounds, while Seth Kalisuch tossed in 12 points.

Things were tougher in Roseville as the Hawks needed their highest point total of the season to secure the victory over the Lions in a non-conference match-up.

Four RedHawks ended the game in double figures, led by Travis, who recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 boards.

Humphrey added 15 points, while Magallon and Leo Bedolla went for 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Another key contributor was Kalisuch, who in addition to his nine points, dished out eight assists.

Colusa (11-4, 1-0) resumed its SVL schedule when it hosted Winters on Tuesday, Willows on Wednesday, before the RedHawks round out the week against Live Oak on Friday.
