Pierce boys go 1-1 in SVL play

Opening Sacramento Valley League play last week, the Pierce varsity boys’ basketball team bounced back from a disappointing 55-57 loss to Willows on Jan. 3, to defeat Winters 54-44 on Jan. 6.

Against a much improved Honkers’ squad, the Bears held the lead for much of the second half, but lost their composure down the stretch, according to Coach Cody McCullough, and, as result, saw the game slip away.

Still, Pierce was able to recover from the loss and even its record in the SVL with a comfortable win over the Warriors.

Statistics from the games were not made available prior to the Pioneer Review print deadline.

The Bears (4-10, 1-1) made the trip to Paradise on Monday, hosted Durham on Wednesday then hit the road again to face East Nicolaus on Friday. â–
