Williams boxer wins debut bout

Ramiro Solis poses with trainers Merced Corona, Ramiro Solis, Sr. and Angel Ambriz after his debut win.

Nine-year-old Ramiro Solis, a student at Williams Middle School, won his debut fight last weekend at Battle Dome Boxing Club in Carmichael.

Competing in the 90-pound division, Solis squared off against an opponent from Sacramento, who had one fight under his belt already.

Yet according to trainer Merced Corona, Solis turned in an excellent performance in the well-fought contest.

“Ramiro fought a very intelligent fight,” said Corona.  “He used his quickness to out point and simply out box his opponent. The outcome was a unanimous decision, so there was no doubt who won the fight.”

Solis fights for La Corona Boxing Club in Arbuckle, and has another fight set for February.
