Colusa football ousted from state playoffs

A remarkable season came to an end last Saturday night at home for the Colusa RedHawks as they fell 21-0 to the visiting Atascadero Greyhounds in a 2022 6-A CIF State Football Bowl game.

Coming into the contest, the RedHawks, the Northern Section Division IV champions had been hampered by illness and unable to practice early last week.

However, the weather was also a hindrance causing Colusa to struggle with its passing game in the heavy rain.

Atascadero, on the other hand, did not throw a pass, opting instead to rely on its six-foot, 215-pound senior running back Trey Cooks, a 1600-yard rusher.

Cooks shouldered the load, gaining 143 yards on 25 carries and scoring all three of the Greyhounds touchdowns.

While the RedHawks did not provide statistics from the game, they have no reason to hang their heads after finishing the season 10-3 and winning their first section title in 32 years.

Additionally, Colusa has much to look forward to as it is set to return a large core of players that have gained experience and will only get stronger in the off season.
