Life is Good… 50 Years from Now?

By Kathy Craigo Harteis

For a couple of hours last week we were 17 again.

In Deadwood,SD we attended the Happy Together Tour. The groups from the 1960’s are in deed happy to be together again.

Our favorite was Little Anthony but the others were equally good.

We were asked by another attendee if in 50 years the music of today would still have the draw that of the 60’s has now. Maybe not.

It may have been a packed house of balding heads and a few wrinkles, but the house was packed.

On the way out we met a 30 something couple. I commented that they were young and asked if they liked the show. “It’s great,” they said adding it was their second time seeing it.

For a minute we remembered a time and a place from our youth.

It’s funny how a song can take you back to a moment you thought you had forgotten.
I remember as a teenaged girl I thought our music would be there forever. It would never change.

I was half right.

Music did change but ours is still here. It will always be special.

Of course the performers still singing it are in their 70’s and 80’s now, but it is all recorded. We still have it.

Most of raised our kids with old time rock-n-roll. It won’t be lost with our generation.

But when I see 81-year-old Little Anthony singing and dancing to “Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop” I can’t help but remember and feel young again.

Life is good today.
