Winters tops Jackets in soccer title match

Williams’s Kaled Rosales (left) and Ernie Lemus (right) battle Hamilton’s Mason Massa for control of the ball in the semifinal match with the Braves on Feb. 21. The Yellowjackets lost to Winters in the championship with Rosales getting the ‘Jackets’ lone goal.

In 2022, the Williams Yellowjackets defeated the Winters Warriors to win their third Northern Section Division III championship.

This year, however, the ‘Jackets were unable to replicate the win as they fell 1-4 to the No.1 seeded Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Kaled Rosales scored in the 20th minute of the match for No. 2 Williams, but unfortunately it was the only score the Yellowjackets could muster.

Despite the loss, the ‘Jackets earned a berth in the CIF NorCal Boys Soccer Championships as the No. 8 seed and traveled to McClymonds High School in Oakland on Tuesday to play No. 1 Leadership, the same team that ousted them from the first round of the state tournament last season. ■
