Returning for the first time since 2019, the NorCal Lions All-Star Game, featuring some of the region’s top football players, kicked off last Saturday at Shasta College with both small and large school games.

A final opportunity for recently graduated seniors to represent their high schools, this 45th rendition included eight local seniors.

Colusa County athletes played for the South squads joining others from Butte, Glenn, Sutter, and Yuba, while the North selected from Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Lassen, and Modoc counties to build its rosters.

Maxwell’s Ignacio Velasquez, Steven Avery, and Will Kuska along with Princeton’s Cris Winn and Jack Sierra represented the South squad in the small school game, which ended in a 27-7 score favoring the North.

While in the large school contest, the South prevailed 21-10 with Pierce’s Kaden Davis and a pair of Williams Yellowjackets in Miguel Rivera and Jayr Ramirez also taking the field.
Colusa’s Nick Price and Pierce’s Brandon Saavedra were named to the team, but unable to participate.

The event raises money benefiting the Children’s Diabetic Camp at Camp McCumber in Shingletown. ■
