In what is shaping up as a banner year, the RedHawks concluded regular season play last week with an eruption of runs, outscoring their opponents 45-3 over three games.
Colusa began a series with Live Oak at home on May 3 and the Lions proved no match for the powerful RedHawks, who after finding themselves down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first scored 25 unanswered runs in a contest that mercifully ended after five innings.
While Colusa did not intend to create such a large run differential, Live Oak could do nothing to prevent it as it struggled to make plays in every possible scenario.
Leading the RedHawks at the plate was Nick Price, who set the tone with a first inning triple as part of his 3 for 3 day, along with recent call-up Landon Humphrey, who also finished 3 for 3.
Emanuel Frias continued to swing a hot bat going 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI, Clay Randolph also went 2 for 3, while Luke Kalfsbeek tripled and drove in three runs.
Hunter Sines got the nod on the hill and went two innings striking out five and yielding three hits before giving way to Price, who in his first appearance on the bump since his sophomore year, struck out the side.
Both Tyler Oliver and Randolph, each tossed an inning of relief recording two strikeouts apiece.
The following day Colusa traveled to Clarksburg where it shutout the Delta Saints 5-0 behind a combined effort from Ethan Lay and Kalfsbeek on the mound.
Lay put in five innings of work striking out 10 and conceding a just a single hit before Kalfsbeek closed out the final two frames of no hit ball in which he fanned five.
In Live Oak on Thursday for their final regular season game, the RedHawks pounded out 14 hits to come away with a 15-2 victory.
Frias stayed hot finishing 3 for 3 with a double and three RBI, Kalfsbeek went 2 for 2 driving in four, two of which came on a double, while Bo Coronado knocked in a pair of runs as part of his 2 for 2 day.
Also garnering multiple hits was Julian Velazquez who was 3 for 4 and Justin Lee who ended the game 2 for 3 with an RBI double.
Four pitchers, including Oliver, Coronado, Joel Magallon and Frias, combined to no-hit the Lions striking out 11 batters in the process.
Now 28-0 the RedHawks, assuredly the No. 1 seed in the Northern Section CIF Division IV, are tentatively set to play at home on Friday in a first round playoff game. ■
