Another week and another two wins for the Williams Yellowjacket boys’ soccer team, after they shut both of their opponents, county rival Maxwell and Sacramento Valley League foe, Durham.
Last Wednesday’s game with Maxwell (1-3) marked the inaugural meeting of the longtime rivals on the pitch, as Maxwell fielded a team for the first time in the school’s history, according to athletic director Kyle Cabral.
However, the inexperienced Panthers were no match for the Yellowjackets (9-1, 5-0), whose pace and fluidity has them looking like one of the favorites to battle it out for not only the SVL crown, but for the section title as well.
Ernie Lemus and Michael Cervantes both recorded a brace, while Kaled Correa added a goal and four assists to lead the ‘Jackets, who also saw Adrian Solis, Leo Hernandez, and Omar Lomeli each find the back of the net.
Williams, who has outscored their opponents 74-10 so far this season, then dominated the visiting Trojans 12-0 last Friday to finish the week, although no statistics were available by the Pioneer Review print deadline.
The Yellowjackets faced an always competitive Hamilton City squad at home on Jan. 26 before they make the trek to Paradise on Jan. 28. ■
