‘Jackets blank Mt. Shasta

Traveling to Mt. Shasta City last Friday night, the Williams Yellowjackets opened Mid-Valley League play with a 14-0 shutout win over the hometown Bears.

It was the third win in a row for Williams (4-2, 1-0), whose defense rose to the occasion, keeping Mt. Shasta from getting a first down in the first half, while additionally recording six sacks and forcing three turnovers on the night.

Although the offense struggled, going three-and-out six times, they came through in the fourth quarter.

Sam Lopez scored the game winner, making good on a 19-yard run, while Jayr Ramirez added some insurance, after breaking an 83-yard touchdown run, with just a little over two minutes remaining in the game.

This week the ‘Jackets will need to keep the chains moving and put points on the board if they are going to knock off an always-tough Modoc at McCarl Field on Friday night.
