Colusa’s tennis gaining momentum

Colusa’s Emely Valdez hits a forehand shot in a match from Sept. 14. Valdez won all three of her singles matches last week.

After being edged by Pleasant Valley 5-4 on Sept. 27, the Colusa RedHawk tennis team went on to notch two decisive victories. The team downed Willows 7-2 on Sept. 28 before blanking Paradise 9-0 the following day.

Against PV, Emely Valdez won the No. 1 singles match 6-1, while No. 2 Briana Pinon defeated her opponent 6-3. 

Also picking up victories was No. 6 Vianey Farias and No. 8 Joanna Rodriguez by scores of 6-5 and 6-4, respectively.

In doubles, the pair of Savanna Rochette and Olivia Nair earned a win, besting the opposition 6-2.

It was a big day for the RedHawks against Willows, as Valdez, Pinon, Estefania Cervantes, Rochette, and Nair all prevailed in singles matches, while the duos of Pinon/Cervantes and Rochette/Nair won in doubles.

No individual scores for the match in Paradise were provided.

Colusa had a match at home against Live Oak on Tuesday and is in Willows today.
