Maxwell falls to Biggs

Taking on Biggs at home last Friday night, the Maxwell Panthers came up on the short end of a 27-7score in a Cascade Valley contest.

Another slow start plagued the Panthers, as they yielded two big plays in the first quarter to spot Biggs a two-touchdown lead.

While Maxwell’s defense stiffened in the second quarter, preventing the Wolverines from extending their advantage, the offense struggled to get on track.

Biggs added two more scores in the third quarter, before the Panthers were finally able to get on the board in the final period, when quarterback Dillon Dry connected with Ignacio Velasquez on a swing pass into the end zone.

Velasquez had a productive evening for Maxwell, according to Coach Lane Davis, who said the senior rushed for close to 100 yards, in addition to making some key receptions.

“He ran hard all night and did a good job catching the ball as well,” Davis said.

Also drawing praise from the Panther head coach, was the defensive backfield, which includes Robert Wade, Berto Lara, and Rudi Gonzalez.

“They played well in coverage and stepped up to make some tackles as well,” said Davis.

Maxwell (1-3) has a tall order this Friday when another unbeaten CVL opponent, Fall River, comes to town.
