Williams shuts out Lindhurst

It has been two years since the Williams Yellowjackets have rushed for more than 200 yards in a game, and the timing for the latest one couldn’t have been better as they rolled up 237 yards against the visiting Lindhurst Blazers last Friday night at McCarl Field. The ‘Jackets went on to record a 34-0 victory.

Improving the ground game has been a major goal this season for the Yellowjackets, who saw some success against Colusa two weeks ago, and really broke things open against the Blazers.

Omar Lomeli had a team-high 61 yards on five carries, Jayr Ramirez took five handoffs and ran for 57 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown, while Jose Campos scored from two yards out as part of the 31 yards he gained.

Williams also found the end zone via the pass, as Antonio Velazquez hauled in a toss from Lomeli, good for 27 yards and the score.

As well as the offense performed, the defense was equally as impressive, not allowing the Blazers a first down throughout the entire game, in addition to scoring twice.

Miguel Rivera accounted for one of the scores, after scooping up a fumbled kickoff and returning it 17 yards, while Lorenzo Rulvacaba added on with a 23-yard pick six.

Rulvacaba also recorded a team-high eight tackles and a sack for good measure.

With the win, Williams evened its record at 2-2, after learning earlier in the week that Durham had to forfeit the game on Sept. 3 against the Yellowjackets, due to having an illegal player in the lineup.

This Friday, the ‘Jackets head to Lake County to take on Upper Lake.
