Colusa tennis defeats Willows for first win

Colusa’s Briana Pinon returns a ball during a match at home on September 14. Pinon won her match in Willows by scores of 6-1, 6-2.

Having dropped its early season matches to Pleasant Valley and Live Oak, respectively, the Colusa girl’s tennis team went on the road last Thursday. The team downed the Willows Honkers 6-3 to record its first victory this year.

Colusa got straight set singles wins from No. 2 Emily Valdez (6-2, 6-4), No. 3 Briana Pinon (6-1, 6-2), No. 4 Estefania Cervantes (6-1, 6-1) and Olivia Nair (6-0, 6-2) in the No. 6 spot.

On the doubles court, Pinon and Cervantes defeated their opponents 8-2, while Nair and partner Jennifer Garcia won their match 8-1.

League play continued for the RedHawks this week as they hosted Paradise on September 21 and travel to Live Oak today.
