Colusa crushes Central Valley

With their originally scheduled game against Trinity cancelled due to the Monument Fire burning in the vicinity, the Colusa football team found a last minute opponent in Central Valley, who proved to be no match for the RedHawks.

Colusa shut out the host Falcons 42-0 in Shasta Lake last Friday night.

While Colusa didn’t face much of a challenge from Central Valley, Coach Mikey Badaluco was pleased with his team’s complete game performance, after having let up two weeks ago against Mt. Shasta.

“It was a great overall game on both sides of the ball for us,” said Badaluco. “We had a chance to pull away from Mt. Shasta, but we got complacent. This week, though, we were aggressive from start to finish and ended the game with a goal line stand.”

En route to victory, the RedHawks put up 35 first half points, led by quarterback Emanuel Frias, who threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns – and ran another one in for good measure.

Twice finding the end zone on passes from Frias was Nick Price, who made catches of 35 and 55 yards, in addition to ripping off a 66-yard touchdown run of his own.

Also getting into the act was Landon Humphrey, who finished with a 45-yard scoring reception.

On the defensive side of the ball, the RedHawks, who lost the shutout in the last minutes of their game against Mt. Shasta two weeks ago, came in with the goal of getting one this week for coordinator Curtis Perkins, and did just that even after the starters had given way.

Headlining the effort for the Colusa defense was Juan Arreguin, who in addition to making a team high nine tackles, had an 85-yard pick six.

The RedHawks, unbeaten in their first two contests, are hoping that Willows, their scheduled adversary for this Friday night, has enough players returning from COVID protocol to make the trip to Colusa.
