Twenty-one golfers from Colusa, Pierce and Williams high schools took to the course at the Colusa Golf and Country Club on Feb. 16 for a nine-hole practice match.
Although not an official league contest, the Pierce team turned in the most consistent performance and thus came away with the best results.
A trio of Bears tied for the top score with Ryan Travis, Alex High and Bryce Murphy each carding a 44, while Matt Reyna and Luke Voorhees finished with a 47 and 49 respectively to round out the team.
For the RedHawks, Logan Book led the way posting a 46, while Clayton Book ended the round with a 48, Mason Saso a 49 and Madison Reister a 50.
Williams, who has been rebuilding a program that was virtually non-existent four years ago, made its first appearance in a match in over a year, did not report scores, but considering the obstacles they have overcome, being able to field a competitive team is a victory in itself.
Coach Darren Robinson reported that thanks to the assistance of local citizens and Pat Ash, with the Citizens for a Better Williams, the Yellowjackets now have the equipment they need to have a program, and enough participation to field a full team, which continues to steadily improve.
Next on tap for Colusa was a dual match with Durham on Wednesday, Feb. 24. Neither Pierce nor Williams were in action this week.
