Life is Good: Sometimes you just need a day…

By Kathy Craigo Harteis

Some years ago our grandson, Kohen, said he was sick at school. I picked him up and brought him to my house.
Once settled on the sofa in the family room, he watched television, and ate homemade chicken and noodles (one of his favorites).
Later in the day Tom went to check on him.
“I’m not really that sick Papa. Sometimes you just need a day,” he said.
Kids need a day sometimes just as we do.
Today is my day. I’ve done a lot this week, plus I’ve got a head cold lurking. I need a day.
I may or may not get dressed.
I cooked a belated birthday dinner for my girls last night so there are plenty of leftovers. It’s all good.
Fall is my favorite time of year. The weather is perfect. The leaves are brilliant.
Our cottonwood trees are full and need to be trimmed. We’re waiting our turn for the tree guy to get here. Such are the pleasures of living where there are four seasons. Some things like falling leaves to clean up and snow to be shoveled are a part of life.
Although we know leaves, the snow and the winter are coming, we enjoy the moment now.
So, I’m an ordained minister now.
Yep, my granddaughter Jade and fiancé, Cory, asked me to officiate their wedding next summer. Off I went to the internet where for $49.99 you can be ordained to legally marry (and bury) people.
I’m honored they think enough of me to ask me to do this.
My certificates are on the way. Now it is my job to practice, pray and plan a meaningful ceremony.
Life is good today.H
