Trip of a lifetime

Tomorrow, my daughter Velvet and I will fly to Edinburgh, Scotland where our journey will begin. I never dreamed that one day I would explore Scotland and Ireland. To do it with Velvet is the bonus.

We’ve planned this trip for nearly a year, and finally, it’s here. As in everything, we don’t know what to expect. Regardless, the ever-positive Velvet assures me that no matter what, it’ll be an adventure.

We’ve made our plans hoping that the COVID fears would wane, and they did. This past week, the UK’s beloved Queen passed away and now Charles is King. Things will likely be different there. Still, it’s an adventure.

I’ve packed and repacked. I’ve condensed the baggage to one small bag and a backpack. I have surprised my kids by managing this. I’m not known for packing lightly.

This past week, granddaughter Lea turned 13. We are extremely proud of her and the kind young woman she is becoming.

We can all learn a lot from Lea. She appreciates everything. I hope she continues to feel that way.

For now, I’m ready for the adventure, and life is good today. ■
