Garage Sale Frenzy

After the weeks I spent cleaning out my folks’ house, my farm house (and barn) and eventually, our lake place and our own California house, I made myself some promises.

I would never again accumulate so much and leave it for my kids to sort out. I would never again have a garage sale.

Yet, here we are. We’ve accumulated too much stuff, and we’re getting ready for a garage sale.

In the last few weeks, we’ve been sorting, rearranging, and organizing. The plan is to be ready by August 12 and 13.

Wish us luck.

We did manage a few days away this past week. We visited Wyoming and Devil’s Tower. Not only that, but we spent a fair amount of time in shops and museums. Did we buy more stuff? Sadly, yes.

A visit to Sundance included a visit to the best museum I’ve ever seen. We soaked up the old west history in that area.

We are reminded that we all have it pretty cushy these days.

I admire the women of that time. Although often portrayed as proper and gentile, there were some pretty tough women among them.

Did you know that George Custer’s wife, Elizabeth (Libbie) Custer, camped with her husband when he was serving in the military? She watched from atop a nearby hill as he led his troops into the battle for that final time.

Tough gal, I’d venture to say.

We all leave our mark on this world. We need to do our best to leave a good one.

Life is good today.
