Life is good: Judge not

I’m guilty of making snap judgements. Shame on me. No really: Shame on me!

We should always strive to see the good and overlook the flaws.

Recently, I watched a replay of the first audition of fabulous singer Susan Boyle. When this obviously awkward English matron stepped on the stage of Britain’s Got Talent, judges and audience alike snickered at her. But, when she began to sing, the snickers turned to cheers.

Because Susan Boyle didn’t fit the mold of what a singer should look like, she was at first dismissed as a joke.

We’re all guilty of doing that.

Growing up, I always felt as if I were being judged. I never felt pretty enough, smart enough, skinny enough, or talented enough. Later, when I finally found my path, I realized that none of that mattered.

As long as I was honest, never crossed anyone, and had my client’s backs, I was ok. I was worthy.

That’s just it. We are all worthy. Everyone is worthy of human kindness and respect.

I’m not naive enough to believe we’re suddenly all going to treat each other better. But it wouldn’t hurt to try.

We live in a world filled with stress, worry, and fear. It’s up to each of us as to how we are going to get through life.

It’s our responsibility to find our own way. It’s our responsibility to lend a hand where we can, but it is not our responsibility to dole out handouts.

I was raised to work for what I get. I have never expected to get something I didn’t earn. Sadly, that is not always the mindset among so many.

Bottom line: work hard, earn your own way, help where you can, and be kind. Never forget this Chinese proverb: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Knowledge is your greatest gift to share.

Life is good today.
