We’re still on the road. Today, we head to Memphis for a couple of days.
We’ve seen so many new things, beautiful homes and scenery in South Carolina and Georgia, this past week.
It is very beautiful there. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t last long in the humidity, though.
We had a great time at friends Gary and Katherine’s two places. They showed us so much Southern hospitality.
We were hoping to eat southern cooking and drink sweet tea on this trip. That we have accomplished in abundance. Everything is so good.
A day trip to Savannah included lunch at Mrs Wilke’s Boarding House, where they serve authentic southern style dishes and a lot of it. We also went on a horse-drawn carriage tour of the beautiful city, its town squares and majestic old homes. There we met Miss Jerry B Taylor, a traditional basket weaver. It is an age-old art of weaving baskets from sweet grass. Sadly, Miss Jerry said few of the younger generations want to learn the art so that it may continue on.
It’s been an adventure for sure.
There’s more to come this week. I’ll admit though that we may be getting a little travel weary, and the slow pace of North Dakota is sounding pretty good. But there are places to go and things to see, so we can rest later.
Life is good today. ■
