Veterans Car Show returns Saturday

To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month, Colusa County Behavioral Health and Safe Haven are teaming up for the 5th Annual Veterans Car Show on Saturday.

The car show will be held at its usual location in Memorial Park, located at the corner of 10th and Market Street, in Colusa.

“If the weather report is right, it will be 95 degrees,” Interim Behavioral Health Director Noel O’Neill said Tuesday. “This is an opportunity for the community to honor our veterans.”

Colusa County Behavioral Health and Safe Haven have been working on the event details to make sure all is ready for a day of fun. The car show will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM, and includes free admission, free lunch, and a raffle entry. Live entertainment will also be provided. Vehicles can be entered for $10.

The annual Veterans Car Show also serves as a way to reduce the stigma related to mental health. It helps reduce isolation among veterans and provides outreach to members of the community who have mental health and substance abuse challenges.

“Creating a community where everyone feels comfortable reaching out for the support they deserve is crucial to ending the stigma around mental health,” Board of Supervisors Chairman Merced Corona, said Tuesday, in declaring May 2022 as Mental Health Matters Month. “Access to support and ending the stigma is of paramount importance.”

With the local event, Colusa County to break the stigma around mental health in the community. ■
