Lawmakers Urge Gov. Newsom to ˜Let Them Play

Assemblyman James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) has led a bipartisan group of legislators in sending a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom urging the California Department of Public Health to issue new guidance that will allow outdoor youth sporting activities and competition to resume immediately.  A total of 42 lawmakers signed this letter or have agreed to co-author Gallaghers Let Them Play Resolution.

” Theres no reason to wait any longer. Democrat and Republican lawmakers agree: Its beyond time to get our kids back on the field and back in the game,” said Gallagher.

Despite the Governors recent announcement ending the statewide stay at home order, youth sports largely remain shut down according to the states Blueprint system.

Some coaches are reporting that the ban on youth sports has resulted in a sharp rise in gang membership, drug and alcohol use, school dropouts, and incarceration. They have also reported an alarming social equity disparity, as private schools and exclusive club teams continue to participate in sporting activities. ™£
