‘Jackets, Panthers Shine at Burton Invite

CORNING, CA (MPG) – Competing amongst 18 teams on May 1 at Corning High School’s Gary Burton Invitational, track athletes from Maxwell and Williams turned in some noteworthy performances to reach the podium.

Panther senior Tanner Vierra posted a personal best mark of 20-2.5 in the long jump to claim second, then cleared 5-08 to finish third in the high jump.

Meanwhile, Maxwell teammate Jadyn Karlonas ran a personal best 1:06.32 in the 400 meters, which was also good for third and helped lead the Panthers to a seventh place finish in the varsity girls’ team competition.

For the Yellowjackets, sophomore Anthony Gonzalez had a nice outing, taking third in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdle races with respective times of 16.67 and 43.83-PB as Williams ended the meet seventh in the varsity boys’ division.

This week, the Panthers traveled to Mt. Shasta City on May 7 for the Shasta-Cascade/Mountain-Valley/Evergreen League Championships, while Williams made its way to Trinity High School in Weaverville on May 8 for the Mid-Valley League Championships.
