COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – As the 2026 Mid-Valley League champions, it is no surprise that the Maxwell Panthers headline the baseball postseason accolades with five players receiving All-League recognition, while Pierce, Colusa and Williams had one selection each.
Topping the list for the Panthers was their junior catcher Colt Montgomery, who in addition to being named the Mid-Valley League’s Most Valuable Player also earned a spot on the second All-Northern Section Team, the only local player to do so this year.
Against MVL opponents Montgomery led Maxwell with a .389 batting average and 1.116 OPS, while for the entirety of the season
hit at a .400 clip and drove in 22 runs.
A pair of seniors in Yahir Alcaraz and Levi Velasquez also took home All-MVL honors in their final season for Panthers.
In conference play, Alcaraz maintained a .292 average at the plate, had a .804 OPS and a team high 10 RBI, while putting in 19 innings of work on the mound, where he recorded 17 punchouts.
For his part, Velazquez spent time in centerfield as well as getting in seven innings on the hill where he did not surrender an earned run, but in possibly his best effort of the season, he closed out the game against Redding Christian to help lift Maxwell to a section championship.
Rounding out the Panther contingent on the All-MVL squad were sophomores Wyatt Roach and Lucas Bowen.
Roach shouldered the load on the bump logging 24 innings in which he did not yield an earned run and struck out 30, then also hit .250 and knocked in eight runs in league play.
Bowen, with a .714 OPS, scored a team high 11 runs while batting .250 in MVL games.
A final accolade for the Panthers was that Forrest Bateman was acknowledged as the Coach of the Year.
Williams, the sixth place team, received one spot which was awarded to Jose Valdez although no statistics were made available.
Meanwhile, in the Sacramento Valley League, sixth place Pierce and seventh place Colusa each received one pick on the All-League team.
Getting the nod for the Bears was junior Colin Dye, who in conference games hit .261, while senior Mason Jennings was the RedHawks’ representative whose overall batting average for the season was .316.
