WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – For the second straight year and only the second time in school history, the Williams golf team has qualified to compete in the Northern Section playoffs.
Golf is gaining popularity at Williams High School, with Coach Darren Robinson reporting that he had 19 players out practicing consistently this season.
Seniors Matthew Cervantes and Jorge Saavedra will lead the six-person team that also includes sophomores Dominick Cardona, Javier Saavedra and Julian Hernandez along with freshman Giovani Luna, into the playoff match on May 11 at Diamond Mountain Golf Course in Susanville.
Additionally, Robinson credited Inaky Rosales for playing a big role in helping the ‘Jackets qualify after the sophomore turned in a strong performance which was key to the team getting their qualifying score.
For Robinson, who plans on stepping down at the conclusion of the season, watching his team meet their goal has been a satisfying experience saying that, “I am very pleased that the team was able to accomplish what they did.”
Williams competed in its final two regular season matches this week, having played in Paradise on May 4 and Nicolaus on May 7.
