‘Jacket wrestlers grapple up

The Williams wrestling team poses for a photo after participating in a five-team meet held at East Nicolaus High School.

Local wrestlers returned to the mat last Thursday night at East Nicolaus High School for a meet that included teams from Williams, Pierce, Biggs, Lindhurst, and Winters, in addition to the host Spartans.

It was a strong showing for the Yellowjackets, who had six of its 13 competitors win at least one match.

Jose Galvan swept his three opponents, while Gustavo Garcia and Jesus Zuniga each finished 2-0.

Kamila Medina went 2-1 at the event, Luis Martinez was 1-1, and Brayden Duran won his only contest.

Pierce, who had three participants, did not report any results.

Junior varsity and girls’ wrestlers are scheduled to compete at Del Oro High School in Loomis on Saturday, while varsity grapplers are slated to participate in the Corning Invitational on the same day.
