Two games against East Nicolaus last week resulted in two more wins for the Colusa baseball team, extending their unbeaten streak to 25 and propelling them into the 20th spot in the MaxPreps
NorCal team rankings.
Colusa pummeled the visiting Spartans 17-1 in a run-rule shortened contest on April 26, after putting crooked numbers on the board in all four innings.
As part of the RedHawks’ 11 hit output at the plate, Ethan Lay, Emanuel Frias, and Seth Kalisuch each collected two hits and drove in three runs.
Joe Maciel contributed an RBI double, while Tyler Oliver, Clay Randolph, Julian Velazquez and Joel Magallon accounted for Colusa’s other four hits.
On the mound, RedHawks pitching was again dominant, limiting the Spartans to three hits and one unearned run.
Lay started on the hill, going three innings and striking out seven, and was followed by Hunter Sines and Frias, who each tossed an inning in relief.
Sines fanned two of the three batters he faced, before Frias closed out the fifth by striking out the side.
Things were closer in the series finale on April 29 in Trowbridge, but Colusa still prevailed in a comfortable 6-1 victory.
Frias continued to swing a hot bat, finishing 3 for 3. Luke Kalfsbeek went 2 for4 with a double, while Kalisuch and Justin Lee recorded Colusa’s other two hits.
Kalfsbeek got the start going six innings and allowing just one hit and striking out five before giving way to Frias, who again slammed the door on the Spartans in the seventh.
Colusa (25-0, 12-0) hosted Live Oak Tuesday in their final regular season home game, traveled to Clarksburg to face Delta in a non-conference game on Wednesday and is in Live Oak today where it concludes Sacramento Valley League play. ■
