Colusa girls go 1-2 in Hamilton City

An annual trip to the Marty Passaglia Tournament didn’t go quite as planned for the Lady RedHawks basketball team, who after topping Biggs in the opener on Dec. 16, subsequently fell to both Hamilton City and Quincy.

Colusa got off to a hot start against the Wolverines, as Danica Chavez scorched the nets for 26 points, including six threes. Abby Myers pitched in with nine points and Reese Roper collected nine rebounds in the 56-36 win.

Then in a rematch of a game played on Dec. 10, which the RedHawks won in overtime, the host Braves exacted their revenge, getting on a hot streak and defeating Colusa 53-38.

Roper had a big game with a 17-point, seven rebound stat line, while Karsyn Gwinnup did her part corralling eight boards.

Against Quincy, the RedHawks could not get on track offensively, struggling from both the floor and the line to find themselves on the short end of a 37-24 score.

No statistics from the game were available.

Colusa (6-6) returns from winter break on Jan. 4 when they travel to Winters to take on the Warriors in its first Sacramento Valley League game. â–
