Pierce’s girls’ basketball team won four straight games last week to boost its pre-season record to 9-4 heading into the winter break.
Beginning last Monday, the Bears avenged an earlier loss to Capital Christian by downing the Cougars 66-54 at home, behind 44 points from state scoring leader, Jocelyn Medina.
Next for the Bears was a trip to Orland’s Lady Trojan Classic, where they swept the competition, defeating Durham, Etna, and Mt. Shasta to secure the championship.
Opening play last Thursday, the Bears torched Durham 60-25, then the following day, dismissed Etna 66-46, before cruising past Mt. Shasta 58-38 on Saturday to complete the tournament.
Medina, Cal-Hi Sports’ Northern California Player of the Week, led the way with 36, 43, and 37 points, respectively, to continue her assault on the Northern Section scoring records.
Pierce will return to action on Jan. 7 when they travel to Pittsburg to play in Castlemont High School’s New Year’s Shootout. ■
