‘Jacket boys soccer continue strong play

Williams’s Kaled Correa celebrates his second goal in the Yellowjackets’ 6-0 win over Colusa on Dec. 6.

A busy week on the pitch for the Williams Yellowjackets saw them start the week by manhandling the Colusa RedHawks, and then despite dropping their first match of the season, finish second at the Battle of the Buttes Tournament in Live Oak.

Hosting Colusa last Monday, Williams scored four first half goals and never looked back as they shut out their visiting county rival 6-0 in a Sacramento Valley League contest.

Kaled Correa had a first half hat trick to lead the Yellowjackets, who also got a brace from Gerardo Navarro and an additional goal Jesus Gutierrez, who assisted on two others.

In their opening game in Live Oak against Gridley on December 10, the ‘Jackets again had no problem finding the back of the net as they came away with a 6-1 victory.

Correa, Michael Cervantes, Alex Garcia, Ernie Lemus, Adrian Solis and Omar Lomeli each scored in the win over the Bulldogs.

Williams then downed Live Oak 4-2 in the second match of the tournament as Gutierrez netted two more goals, while Lorenzo Ruvalcaba accounted for one as did Solis, who also contributed two assists.

Facing Wheatland in the game for first place on December 11, the ‘Jackets got on the board first after Lomeli capitalized on an assist from Leo Gonzalez, but were slowed by injuries and some ill-timed yellow cards, ultimately falling 3-1 to the Pirates.

Now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the SVL, the Yellowjackets had their game scheduled with Live Oak on Monday cancelled but hoped to get in their match in Winters on Wednesday before heading into the winter break.
