Facing a visiting Paradise squad in a doubleheader at home last Tuesday, the RedHawks braved the wind to emerge with two victories in their final regular season matches.
To expedite the situation, the teams chose to forego the traditional best of three format and use, instead, the pro set, where the winner of the match must win eight games with a minimum advantage of two. It must have been to Colusa’s liking, as they won the first go-round 6-3 and followed up in the nightcap 7-2.
In the initial singles matches, No. 4 Estefania Cervantes, No. 5 Olivia Nair, and No. 6 Savanna Rochette each defeated their opponents by scores of 8-1, 8-0 and 8-2, respectively.
On the doubles courts, the pairs of Renee Wrysinski/Emely Valdez, Cervantes/Briana Pinon, and Nair/Rochette completed the sweep of their Bobcats’ counterparts.
Colusa got stronger in the second cycle of singles matches with Wrysinski (8-3), Valdez (8-1), Cervantes (8-1), Nair (8-3), and Rochette (8-0) all posting wins.
To conclude the contest, the doubles teams of Wrysinski/Valdez and Nair/ Rochette downed their opposition for a second time.
Up next for the RedHawks, who finished Sacramento Valley League play 7-2, is the SVL championship tournament, which runs Oct. 21-22 in Paradise. ■
