Colusa volleyball prevails at Dixon Tourney

The Colusa RedHawks claimed the championship at the Dixon Tournament on Sept. 4.

Finally playing at full strength again, the Colusa RedHawks bested the competition at the Dixon Tournament last Saturday by downing Sutter, Central Valley, and Rio Vista in pool play – holding off the host Rams in bracket play, and then defeating the Huskies for a second time to claim the championship.

Coach Kim Roper described her team’s win a “group effort by all the athletes, both on and off the court,” although statistics were not available by the Pioneer Review print deadline.

Colusa went undefeated last week in seven matches, dropping just two sets in the process.

Starting off on Aug. 31 at home against Gridley, the RedHawks defeated the scrappy Bulldogs 25-19, 25-11, 25-16.

Reese Roper and Carly Simmons led the attack with 10 kills apiece, while Karsyn Gwinnup handed out 21 assists.

In the back row, Anahi Guzman made a team high 22 digs, with Roper contributing 12.

Traveling to Sutter on Sept. 2, the RedHawks handled the Huskies in three sets by scores of 25-18, 26-24, 25-17.

Roper paced Colusa with nine kills, while Simmons and Leah Ferrara tallied six apiece.

Setter Abby Myers dished out 21 assists, and Lexi Avera scooped up 10 digs.

Colusa (14-2) commenced Sacramento Valley League play this week hosting Winters on Tuesday, and will head to Live Oak this evening.
