For a number of years, my gal pals and I went on girl trips to friend Deb’s vacation home.
It was in Shastina, near Weed, Calif.
It was a beautiful little home. The back deck sat up against the golf course. The golf course, like many yards in the community, had a population of deer.
Every evening, as we sat out on the deck, the deer would come up for snacks. We always made sure to have crackers and popcorn on hand.
There was anticipation and excitement for each Shastina trip. It was our place to relax; a peaceful place to be together and reminisce about our lives together. We’ve been friends since high school.
This week the fires took the house. Deb had sold it some years back, but in our minds it was still our place. Now it is gone and it makes us sad.
We made plenty of memories there. So, we hang on to the memories and appreciate the time we had together there.
My heart hurts for the families who have lost homes this week. It hurts as well for the deer and wildlife in that area.
Pray for all the people and creatures big and small that this wildfire has hurt.
This week, granddaughter Lea becomes a teenager. Yep, 13! Seems like yesterday she was a baby girl. I’m very proud of Lea and the beautiful inside and out young lady she is becoming. We are blessed for sure to have her as a part of us.
Life is good today. ■
