Maggie (Margaret) Alice Roa (nee Zaragoza) • 10/17/1935 – 5/6/2024

Maggie (Margaret) Alice Roa (nee Zaragoza) of Colusa, CA died May 6, 2024, peacefully at home with family after a short illness. She was 88 and known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Maggie was born October 17, 1935, to Jose and Trinidad Zaragoza in Lomita, CA. She had 4 siblings. Early on Maggie’s family lived in the LA area but they moved, and she spent most of her life in Colusa County. She graduated from Princeton High School and settled in Colusa.
On December 24, 1955, she married the love of her life, Frank John Roa Sr. and together they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary prior to his passing in 2006. She had 3 children: Ronald Ray Swearinger (Lisa/Elizabeth), Frank John Roa, Jr. (Margaret) and Teresa Roa Bartholow (Al/Albert).
She was a majorette and cheer leader in high school marching in various parades. She loved playing and participating in sports, especially softball and bowling. When she wasn’t playing, she traveled to many fields, gyms, and racetracks to watch her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews play. Maggie also loved to cook and many Colusians have had the pleasure of eating her burritos and other secret recipes. She liked to keep busy with her hands as she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She volunteered at the hospital auxiliary, the polls for elections, and distributed commodities food.
She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Orr for 38 years and then for the Colusa County Assessor’s Office until she retired.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank Sr., son Ron and her brothers, Eloy, Tony (Anthony), and Raymond. She will be missed dearly by her children, Frank Jr. and Teresa, her sister Annie, and her grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10:30 am at the Colusa Assembly of God Church, 1747 State Highway 20, Colusa, CA 95932. The family requests Remembrances be given to the church. Burial will be private.
