Fred Albert Durst of Grimes, CA passed away May 11, 2024, at the age of 95. He was born on February 20,1929 in Marysville, CA to John and Emma (Fruchtenicht) Durst. He lived his entire life in Grimes, CA. Married to his highschool sweethear, Bevelry (Brooks) for 69 years raising four daughters.
An Active member of the community, he served on the Volunteer Fire Dept., was on the Cemetery Board and served as the town Water Director for 46 years. For over 70 years Fred was a farmer in Colusa and Yolo Counties. Along with his brother Lloyd, they formed Durst Bros., a successful and prominent farming business. Fred served a term as President for the Farm Bureau and was on the Board of the Rice
Grower Association.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing sports and waterskiing in the river. In his later years, he became an avid golfer and learned to cook.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Kerry Kasza (John) of Idaho, Shirley Linton of Grimes, CA, Dana Lass (Vince) of Woodland, CA, 8 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Beverly, daughter Denise Shaefer, brothes Bob Durst and Lloyd Durst, sisters Dorothy Mengali and Nancy Nageley, and his parents John and Emma Durst.
Visitation will be held at McNary-Moore Chapel in Colusa, CA on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 10:00am at the Grand Island Cemetery in Grimes, CA.
