Dorothy Audrey McGowan passed away peacefully on October 11, 2022, she was eighty-nine years old.
Dorothy was preceeded in death by her husband Verne (1992), her son Tom (2018) , and seven siblings. She is survived by three sons; Mike, Chico, Ca., Pat (Bonnie) Southern Pines, N.C., and Jim (Ellen), Colusa, Ca. Her brother Daryl, lives in Oklahoma. Dorothy has seven grandchildren; Carli, Michael, Mallory, Hannah, Sean, Scotti, and Taylor. Her four great-grandchildren are Natalie, Jackson, Alia, and James.
Dorothy graduated from Mayville College (North Dakota) in 1950. She was a kindergarten teacher for forty-two years. She had the love and admiration of hundreds of students and parents, alike. Her passion was her teaching and mentoring of her students.
Dorothy loved to play tennis and was an active member of the Colusa Tennis Club for many years. She also loved music, and enjoyed playing the piano. Dorothy was a Godly woman and a faithful servant for Colusa’s First Presbyterian Church for decades. She especially loved the time she spent with the children there.
Dorothy was an inspiration to everyone she met. She had a joyful sense of humor. She cherished her time babysitting the grandchildren. They still remember her nursery rhymes and funny stories. Her faith was a testament to her pure heart.
It was always…others first.
Dorothy will be missed by not just her immediate family, but, by the dozens of nieces, nephews, and friends. Oh, and all who ever tasted her caramel rolls!
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, in Colusa.
