1/16/1953 – 12/18/2023
Leta Joan “Joanie” Anberg came to rest on December 18, 2023, just a month shy of her 71st birthday. Joanie was born January 16, 1953, in California. She met and married her husband of 40+ years, Robert Anberg in Williams, CA. With the help of her brothers, they built a home together where they raised their family in Arbuckle, CA.
Joanie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. She spent her life in public service, breaking barriers as the first female guard to serve in the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office. She advanced in her career, retiring as Sergeant in Corrections after over 20 years of service. She also enjoyed supporting the efforts of FOCCAS, CCSO’s animal service, and supporting a candidate in a local campaign for Sheriff.
Joan was known for her fun-loving spirit and her generosity. She was independent and loving with a deep empathy for others and the first to lend a helping hand. Her most recent adventure was sliding down an inflatable water slide at a family reunion!
Joanie reunites with her parents Carl & Imogene Pasley, brothers Larry & Charlie, and nephew Chuckie in heaven. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Anberg, and her daughters, Alena Anberg and Catherine (Michael) Shahan, and brother Paul Pasley. She loved her sister-in-law Gayle, and her nephews Sean (Terri) Pasley and Terry (Angela) Pasley. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Dallas Kelly, Dante Muzzi, Kirk Shahan, Kylie Shahan, Kohl Shahan, and Kmichael Shahan. We carry forward the best parts of Joanie–a kind heart, empathy, quickness to have fun, and dedication to serving others. She leaves an incredible legacy of breaking barriers and public service. Joanie’s life will be honored in a private
family service.
