After suffering a tough five-set loss in a highly competitive match in Sutter, the RedHawks came back with a vengeance in the Yreka Mountain Blast Tournament where they didn’t lose a set as they captured the championship.
No statistics from the matches were made available although Coach Kim Roper reported that the title match was perhaps her team’s best performance of the season.
Abby Coronado was named the tournament MVP, while fellow front row players Kendall Marengo and Lauren Gomez earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
Colusa (12-4) looked to feed off its momentum this week when it played back-to-back home matches against Vacaville Christian and River Valley on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 respectively.
Williams 3 – Winters 0 (8/27)
Visiting Winters proved no match for Williams in a non-conference match last Thursday as the Yellowjackets prevailed 25-11, 25-3, 25-14 behind Yurydia Rocha, who accounted for 16 points after notching 10 kills and serving six aces.
Aimee Velazquez pitched in with seven kills, Jaqueline Esqueda handed out 14 assists and added another six aces, while Dulce Duran and Daisy Ruiz made nine and eight digs respectively.
With the win, the ‘Jackets evened their record at 4-4 on the year and this week play in the Hamilton City Tournament that runs Sept. 4 and 5.

Although inconsistent play plagued the Bears last week, according to Coach Lauren Ornbaun, some recent roster additions have increased her squad’s tempo and competitiveness.
“We have great highs and really low lows,” said Ornbaun, “There are moments of pure good volleyball, then times when errors hurt us, but we are continuing to improve.”
A particularly bright spot in last week’s first three matches was the play of Rylie Delepierre, who logged a total of 49 kills including 22 in the loss to Woodland.
Audrey Weber is settling in at the setter position dishing out 22.7 assists per match in that same span, sophomore call-up Presli Harris made an immediate impact having averaged 12.2 digs and five kills, while libero Leslye Velazquez has been steady in the back row making a cumulative 76 service receptions and 45 digs.
At Sutter’s Battle in the Buttes Tournament, Pierce went 2-2, staying in the gold bracket before being ousted in a loss to Yuba City.
This week, the Bears (5-10) headed back to Sutter to face the Huskies on Sept. 1, then returned home to entertain Vacaville Christian on Sept. 3.

Last week it was a good one for the Panthers, who went 4-1 and, in the process, ran their overall record to 12-3.
Starting off against Lower Lake, Erin Dennis ended the match with 12 kills, while Reese Vierra accounted for seven, although statistics from the Burney Tournament were not available.
Maxwell kept up its busy schedule hosting Paradise Adventist on Sept. 1 before hitting the road to meet Los Molinos on Sept. 2, then beginning play in the Hamilton City Tournament on Sept. 4.
