COLUSA, CA (MPG) – After an earlier cancellation, Puptoberfest returned to Veterans Memorial Park on Oct. 24, bringing 18 costume contest entries, vendors and raffle prizes to the annual fundraiser benefiting Friends of the Colusa County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS).
The Colusa County Chamber of Commerce stepped in to organize the event after FOCCAS announced in August that Puptoberfest would take a hiatus until 2027.
Colleen Wrysinski helped bring the event back, recruiting several volunteers who had assisted with previous celebrations.
Jenna Lambgino served as emcee for the costume parade, introducing dogs and their owners as they showed off costumes ranging from superheroes and Star Wars characters to chickens and dinosaurs.
Williams City Manager Yvonne Kimball and Chamber Executive Director Jack Cunningham judged the competition.
Susan Meeker and Daisy Jo earned Most Original for their Star Wars-themed costumes. Devin and Tim Kelley, accompanied by Finn and Pixie, won Most Halloweenie for their Superman and Wonder Woman costumes.
Veronica Sandoval, Worthy and their Kentucky Fried Chicken-themed crew received the Best Pair award.
Beyond the costume contest, attendees visited vendor booths, purchased raffle tickets and enjoyed a hot dog lunch. The event also included a volunteer fair connecting community members with local nonprofit organizations.
FOCCAS will receive a share of the event proceeds to support its animal welfare efforts.
