Our beloved mother, Petra M. Hernandez, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 7, 1939 in Durango, Mexico to Gabriel and Maxima Montenegro. Petra devoted her life to her family as she raised 7 children in Arbuckle with the love and support of her sister (Petronila, Maria and Francisca) and her brother-inlaws (Antonio and Graciano).
She was a homemaker and farm laborer. Peter is survived by her children, Patricia Sorenson, Gabriela Powell, Herbert Hernandez, Sonya Steadman, Russell Hernandez, Maxima Stumbo and Alejandra Martinez; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and her sisters, Petronila Ricardez and Maria de Jesus Rodriguez. Predeceased by her husband Heriberto Hernandez; sister Francisca Nevarez; brothers Feliciano Montenegro and Sebastian Montenegro.
Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Arbuckle on August 13, 2026 at 9:00a.m., Rosary at
10:00a.m. and service at 11:00a.m. A private burial will take place the following day.
