James Goodin, a beloved brother, uncle, and man of deep faith, passed away on July 21, 2026, at the age of 74 in Eloy, Arizona, following a long struggle with complications from polio and scoliosis. Though his body endured much over the years, his spirit remained steadfast, and his love for those around him never wavered.
James was born on November 11, 1951, in Colusa, California, to Cornelius Goodin and Vera Goodin Robinson. He grew up surrounded by siblings who would remain close to his heart throughout his entire life. Known for his caring nature and genuine concern for others, James
had a quiet way of making the people around him feel valued and loved. His family was his greatest treasure, and he took every opportunity
to stay connected with his brothers, sister, nieces, and nephews.
James found great enjoyment in working on his computer, a hobby that kept his mind sharp and engaged. He was also a faithful member of both the Pentecostal and Baptist churches, attending services whenever his health permitted. It was within those church communities that James nurtured the defining passion of his life: his unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ. His faith was not something he kept to himself. It shaped the way he treated others, the way he faced adversity, and the way he lived each day.
James was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius Goodin; his mother, Vera Goodin Robinson; and his brother, George Sistrunk. He is survived by his sister, LaVonne Frazier (Jim); his brothers, Bill Goodin (Mercy)and Russell Sistrunk (Shot); his nephews, Chris Frazier (Crystal), Joseph Goodin (Christina), Shawn Sistrunk, Jimmy Sistrunk and his nieces, Carrie Mendoza (Manny), Debra Garcia (Marcos), Michelle Kelly and was a great uncle and great great uncle to many more. Each of them will carry forward the warmth and love he so freely gave.
James lived his life anchored in the promises of his Lord and Savior. His family takes comfort in knowing that he now rests in the eternal peace he so faithfully believed in. In the words of the Scripture he held dear, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. Rest now in the arms of the Savior you loved so faithfully, James. You are home.
