GRIMES, CA (MPG) – The community of Grimes will celebrate its 175th anniversary and Independence Day with a morning of family activities, vendors and a parade on Saturday, July 4.
The celebration will run from 8 a.m. to noon in downtown Grimes. Organizers are encouraging residents and visitors to attend the event, which will recognize the community’s founding in 1851.
A community parade will begin at 10 a.m. Participants should line up at 9 a.m. at the Grimes Elementary School. Organizers said no advance registration is required and all entries are welcome.
The event will feature food vendors, craft vendors, handmade goods, baked items and community information booths. Organizers are also seeking parade participants, including floats, classic cars, horse riders, local businesses, clubs, organizations and community groups.
Vendor spaces are available for $10 for non-food vendors. Each space measures 10 feet by 10 feet. Interested vendors can call (530) 520-1311 for information and applications.
Families can take part in activities throughout the morning, including face painting and children’s activities.
In advance of the celebration, the Grimes Library will host a Kids Bike Decorating event from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. July 2. Children and families are invited to decorate bicycles for the July 4 Kids Bike Parade. The library will provide decorating supplies, although participants may bring additional decorations.
Organizers said the morning schedule was designed to help participants avoid the hottest part of the day while celebrating the community’s history and Independence Day.
