WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – Growers, landowners and other groundwater users will have two opportunities in early September to learn how groundwater management decisions could affect them within the Colusa Subbasin.
The Glenn County Resource Conservation District and Community Alliance with Family Farmers will hold SGMA 201 workshops Sept. 2 in Williams and Sept. 3 in Orland. The free sessions will focus on implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act, commonly known as SGMA, and local efforts to achieve groundwater sustainability.
The Williams workshop will run from 1-2 p.m. Sept. 2 at Granzella’s Banquet Hall, 457 Seventh St. An in-person open house will follow.
The Orland workshop will run from 1-2 p.m. Sept. 3 at Glenn Success Square, 131 E. Walker St., followed by an open house.
Organizers said SGMA 201 will build on the basics of the state groundwater law and explain how the Colusa Groundwater Authority and Glenn Groundwater Authority are working within the Colusa Subbasin.
Among the topics will be groundwater demand management, including the draft Groundwater Demand Management Program and how it could affect groundwater users.
The workshops will also cover the Water Accounting System and explain water accounting statements, including how groundwater users can understand the information and data provided in the statements.
Organizers said the sessions are intended to give groundwater users information about current management efforts and ways they can participate in local groundwater decisions. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions about proposals under consideration within the subbasin.
Participants may attend the 1-2 p.m. workshop sessions in person or virtually. The open houses following each workshop will only be available to those attending in person.
No RSVP is required. Virtual access information will be available at http://www.glenncountyrcd.org.
The workshops are being held in partnership with the Colusa Groundwater Authority, Glenn Groundwater Authority, Glenn County Resource Conservation District and Community Alliance with Family Farmers.
