Maxwell 6 – Quincy 0 (5/1)
Maxwell 2 – Quincy 1

Maxwell’s Vincent Orozco had a hit in both of the Panthers’ wins over Quincy on May 1.

Maxwell remained just one game back of the top spot in the Mid-Valley League standings after sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Quincy.

In the early game, the Panthers made the most of their four hits putting up three runs in the first then adding on three more in the fourth.

Yahir Alcaraz led the way going the distance on the mound where he allowed just three hits in the shutout win, then helped his cause at the plate by doubling and driving in a pair of runs.

Vincent Orozco and Wyatt Roach each had a hit and two RBI, while Lucas Bowen accounted for Maxwell’s only other hit.

However, things got tougher in the nightcap as the Panthers needed extras before walking it off in the ninth.

Roach got the nod on the bump and went eight strong, scattering three hits and striking out nine before yielding to Levi Velasquez who earned the win by retiring the side in order in the top of the ninth.

Mack Kuska went 2 for 3, while Orozco, Alex Krug, Colt Montgomery and Louis Minutti finished with a hit apiece.

Maxwell (17-7, 7-1) closes out the regular season this week with a series against first place Hamilton City (15-8, 8-0) which will determine the Mid-Valley League championship.

On the road to face the Braves on May 5, the Panthers returned home for the finale on May 7.

Colusa 1 – East Nicolaus 16 (4/28)

Making the trek to Paradise the following day, Moore doubled for the second straight game, while Dane Codorniz and Gio Velasquez had the RedHawks only other knocks in the loss.

Returning home to complete the series with the Spartans, Faris had the sole hit for Colusa in a game where the team made six errors.
