Three-Win Week for RedHawk Tennis

Colusa’s No. 1 Marcos Deniz collected singles and doubles wins in two matches for the RedHawks last week.

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa’s boys tennis team brought an end to a four-match skid with respective victories over Quincy, Paradise and Shasta Charter Academy (Redding) last week.

Entertaining Quincy on April 13, the RedHawks’ prevailed 7-2 over the Trojans.

No. 1 Marcos Deniz set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while No. 4 Samuel Fanti (6-1, 6-2), No. 5 Kevin Madrigal (6-2, 6-0) and No. 6 Romeo Reyes (6-1, 6-0) also prevailed in singles.

Colusa swept the doubles matches from the Trojans after wins by the No. 1 pair of Deniz and Brock Prior (8-0), No. 2 Ulises Campos and Jax Lay (8-4) and No. 3 Fanti and Romeo Reyes (8-3).

Making their way to Paradise two days later, the RedHawks triumphed 6-3 as the Bobcats forfeited the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches along with the No. 1 doubles match.

The RedHawks’ Jax Lay won his singles match 6-4, 6-3 then paired with doubles partner Gaven Recendez to down their opponents from Shasta Academy on April 16.

Those netting wins for Colusa included Prior (6-6 (9-7), 6-6 (9-7)) in a marathon match at No. 3, Fanti (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 along with Fanti and Reyes (8-0) in doubles.

Closing out last week, the RedHawks swept visiting Shasta Charter Academy.

Deniz outlasted his opponent 6-6 (7-5), 7-5) as did Gaven Recendez who won 6-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Prior (6-0, 6-4) and Jax Lay (6-4, 6-3) also recorded singles victories.

On the doubles courts, Deniz and Prior emerged 8-8 (7-5) while Recendez and Lay claimed an 8-5 win.

Colusa (10-4, 8-3) played its final regular season match on April 21 at home against Shasta View Academy.
