Pierce 29 – Willows 23

Pierce sophomore Ben Sweet rushed 26 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns as the Bears held on to defeat Willows.

As injuries continued to mount, Pierce withstood a challenge from the Honkers who made a game of it after capitalizing on Bear miscues.

“They loaded the box and we struggled with the pass,” said Coach Anthony Tapia. “We are running out of bodies and they played us really well, but we ultimately came away with the win. Despite giving up some big plays and turning the ball over a couple times.”

Shouldering the load on offense was running back Ben Sweet, whose herculean effort included rushing for 184 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in addition to making six tackles, causing two fumbles and recovering one on defense.

Colin Dye tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Timmy Vega, then rushed for another as the Bears rolled up 383 yards of offense in Willows.

Alfredo Huerta made a team-high 10 tackles, while Alex Ramirez accounted for six and also recovered a fumble.

Pierce (4-3, 2-1) has a much-needed bye this week before returning to action on Oct. 23 at home against Durham.

Colusa 3 – Paradise 41

The Bears’ Colin Dye threw a touchdown pass and rushed for another in Pierce’s 29-23 victory over Willows on Oct. 9.

It was a rough trip to “The Ridge” for the RedHawks who could not slow down a Bobcat offense that accrued 626 total yards including 409 on the ground.

Statistics from the game were not made available by Colusa (2-4, 0-3) who looks for its first Sacramento Valley League win this Friday at home against Willows.
